Grady Washington Langley
Grady Washington Langley, 74, of Roanoke Rapids died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Wake Medical Center.
Grady was born February 26, 1935, the son of the late German Datice Langley and Mabel Bass Langley. He was known as Pop to many and was a very loving and caring man. Grady was always concerned about everyone and always wanted to help everyone he could. He will truly be missed by the whole community. Not only did he help his community, but he also served his country for 22 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as Senior Master Sergeant. He was the long-time owner of Langley Upholstery in Roanoke Rapids, operating the business for 25 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Robert D. Langley; his sisters, Maylilly Parker and Irene Joyner; and his brothers, German D. Langley, Jr., Larry T. Langley, and Bennie Langley.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sylvia R. Langley; his son, Larry Langley and his wife, Dayna, of Roanoke Rapids; his stepdaughter, Nancy Rusk, of Boston, MA; four grandsons, Samuel Langley, David Langley, Josh Langley and Aaron Langley; his daughter-in-law, Pam Driver and her husband, Glen, of Halifax; his brother, Wiley Langley and his wife, Georgia, of Holden Beach; and six sisters, Tassie Langley of Sharpsburg, Edith Strickland of Rocky Mount, Jackie Barnes and her husband, Donald, of Goldsboro, Janie Leggins and her husband, Bill, of Wilson, Doretha Cocker and her husband, Robert, and Nancy Sharp, all of Sharpsburg.
Askew Funeral & Cremation Services is handling the arrangements, where memorial services will be held in the chapel on Thursday, December 31, at 1:00 p.m. with military honors. Rev. Leonard Rex will be officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 30, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Langley’s service to his country.
